A Pastel Chuppah Wedding at Crystal Plaza in Livingston, New Jersey

Photos by Primavera Films

Ruth and James got married at Crystal Plaza in Livingston, New Jersey, in June 2026, under a chuppah covered in pink roses and blue and lavender hydrangeas. Crystal Plaza hosted all of it: the ceremony, the dinner and the dancing.

Primavera Films and their sister company Dreamwood Films covered the day on photo and video, from getting ready through a first look, the ceremony and a reception they describe as full of warmth, laughter and spontaneous moments.

A ball gown, a first look and a veil

Ruth wore a strapless ball gown with a long veil, and James wore a classic tuxedo with a black bow tie and patent leather shoes. They saw each other first at a private first look, and the portraits that followed lean on that veil: wrapped around the two of them in the garden and in a sunlit room with arched windows. The photographers say the two of them had the kind of connection that doesn’t need directing.

The ceremony was the part that moved the photographers most, with a strong sense of togetherness in the room. Ruth walked in with two women at her side, James lowered her veil before the ceremony, and they married under a chuppah layered with pastel roses and hydrangeas. The same soft palette carried over to the escort card table, set with candles and flowers. For another wedding under a chuppah, see this Brooklyn wedding at 74Wythe.

Custom details and a ruffled cake

The small things carried their names and their date: cocktail napkins printed with “Ruth & James” and matchboxes stamped June 7, 2026. Crystal Plaza handled the catering, and the cake was covered top to bottom in white sugar ruffles. Then the ballroom filled up under the chandeliers and stayed that way.

  • The Perfect Match Wedding Favor Matchboxes, $47.95 for 50 at Zazzle. Matchboxes with your date on them are the idea to steal from Ruth and James, and the text on this design is customizable. They ship flat for you to fold; assembled boxes cost $12.60 more per pack.
  • Modern Minimalist Script Wedding Cocktail Napkins, $44.85 for 50 at Zazzle. Your names in script on a cocktail napkin, the same idea as the “Ruth & James” napkins here. Choose white or ecru napkins, and order a few weeks out so printing and shipping don’t land the week of the wedding.
  • BHLDN Maxine Cathedral Veil, $298 at Anthropologie. If you want a veil-lowering moment like the one before Ruth and James’s ceremony, you need a blusher layer, and this circular-cut ivory tulle cathedral veil has one. It fastens with a comb.

The idea worth stealing

Put your date on the matchbox. Custom matchboxes cost little, double as a favor, and give guests one more photo of your wedding date to find in a junk drawer years later.
