Royal Botanical Gardens Wedding

Royal Botanical Gardens Wedding: Tell us your story. How did you meet? We went to the same university and met for the first time on Halloween night in 2015 through mutual friends.

Naz was dressed as the devil with a red blazer and horn headband, and Nathan was dressed as Barney Stinson, a character from the TV show “How I Met Your Mother”. We saved each other’s phone numbers on our phones but didn’t end up meeting up later in the night.

Fast forward to the following February, we both attended a student formal event with our group of friends and ran into each other again. We danced together and eventually went to a bar that evening with our friends and ended up talking all night.

Nathan asked Naz out for coffee shortly after. We realized we already had each others’ phone numbers, and they were saved as “devil emoji” and “barney” haha. One coffee date led to the next, and to dinner dates, study dates and more. We’ve been inseparable since.

What was the vision for your wedding color/style/scheme?

We both love the outdoors, greenery, and flowers and knew from the beginning that we wanted an outdoor garden ceremony.

Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) offered a beautiful and memorable venue with lots of flowers, trees, and nice landscaping. It was the perfect choice for us and offered a combination of outdoor and also beautiful indoor space to hold our reception at the Rock Garden.

Naz’s favourite colour is lilac. It’s also a great summer colour so we decided to go with a mix of white and lilac colours for our wedding. Bridesmaids wore a full-length lilac dress, and groomsmen had lilac ties and pocket squares.

We didn’t want the colours at our wedding to clash and a mix of white, lilacs and greenery harmonized perfectly together. Overall, we wanted the colours to really compliment the venue, keep it fresh and light.

What made your wedding unique and special? What were your favorite parts of the day?

Our wedding was unique in many ways as we customized it to make the day perfect for us. We decided to not have a dance as we had a smaller number of guests made up of close family and friends.

We love food so we went with a 4-course plated dinner for our early afternoon luncheon reception. We didn’t want a cake as our food selection included coffee/tea service with individual seasonal fruit tarts for everyone. We thought a fresh dessert was great for a summer wedding.

Our favourite parts of the day were taking the first look photos, reciting our vows, and speeches shared after the lunch. First look photos were so special. We were so excited for our big day and our photographers were amazing capturing all the beautiful moments.

Following the luncheon reception, we had speeches. Each speech was so sweet and heartfelt. It was nice to have the time to focus on the speeches at the end instead of having them throughout the meal.
