The morning glow of the sun brightened Katie & Matthew’s spring estate wedding at Jekyll Island Club Hotel last April.
How he asked: I already knew Matt had the ring, the question was when he was going to do it. We started planning a trip, he was really excited about it – I just knew this would be when we got engaged. I started buying all sorts of outfits to prepare for “the trip.” One busy workday in July, my boss and I decided to cook a terribly complicated recipe that took ALL. DAY. LONG. I was ill as a hornet when I got home, not to mention covered in sweat and flour. I noticed he had cleaned the house top to bottom, plus had flowers and extra chairs around the dining room table. I also saw my grandmother driving by, and thought, “my goodness, she’s nosey!” Clearly I had no idea what was going on or I would have showered. Long story short, he popped the question right in our kitchen that we had spent the last 6 months remodeling together, making plans for our future. Sure, I big fancy trip would have been fun, but it was and still is so special to me that our home was where he chose to propose. After I said yes, both our families joined us for champagne and dinner, which was the terribly complicated dish I mentioned earlier that turned out to be terribly salty and disgusting.
From the bride: I loved having a morning wedding and brunch reception. The afternoon was left open for our guests to do as they pleased. Several rented bikes, lounged by the pool, enjoyed afternoon tea, etc. Then we all met up late afternoon for croquet on the front lawn!
