Emily & Jody’s romantic oceanfront wedding took place at Olowalu Plantation House in Lahaina, Hawaii.
From the photographer: Private vows, a first touch, shots during the ceremony, and the first kiss to trump all first kisses. Emily and Jody’s Olowalu Plantation House wedding was full of love, laugh, and tears. She wanted me to take the first kiss from the other direction. From BEHIND them – so instead of seeing a blown-out background, they saw the faces of their loved ones. Guess what? I love different and this will, henceforth, be known as my favorite angle EVER for first kisses. And that wasn’t my only favorite moment. I also loved their first touch. I’ve spoken a lot about how first looks tend to be womp-womp moments – but a first touch? This is my new fav for couples who want to have a moment together before the ceremony. Emily and Jody went back-to-back, read one another their private vows, and had that moment to themselves. But they saved the big reveal for the aisle. It’s the best of both worlds and both moments were so special.
From the bride: We knew early on in our relationship that if we got married it would have to be in Hawaii! The groom has Hawaiian heritage, and it was important to us to pay tribute to that. We wanted the style to be very natural and romantic. Our wedding venue was gorgeous on its own, so we wanted the decor and color palette to look like it was part of the natural beauty surrounding it. We incorporated some music from the Hawaiian culture and exchanges leis that the groom’s grandmother made by herself. She also made haku leis for the bride and bridesmaids.
