An Italian-styled, Bonneville Salt Flats elopement hosted by Essential Photography and photographed by Dovile Reid Photography. Influenced by the modern flare of Italian culture in one of the United States’ most unique landscapes- this shoot is otherworldly.
The Bonneville Salt Flats are an out-of-this-world destination conveniently located about 2 hours west of Salt Lake City, Utah near the Nevada border. A special place that reminds you of something like the ice age era or the surface of Saturn’s moon as densely packed salt pans for miles and miles over 30,000 acres.
As we headed out onto the salt flats, we quickly took note of the incredible patterns below our feet. The unique conditions of this destination vary depending on the time of year. As summer is the driest season, the flats turn a beautiful bright white and make it very easy to walk (and drive) on them, but temperatures can be sore if unprepared.
For a completely different perspective, visiting in the spring or late fall, the flats can be wet, creating the most wonderful reflections and mirror images.
No matter the time of year, the Bonneville Salt Flats create undeniably beautiful conditions for the perfect portraits and the perfect intimacy needed for your wedding day. For couples looking for a smaller and more private experience, this destination provides a simple and minimalistic approach to cherish for a lifetime.
For this Bonneville Salt Flats elopement shoot, we chose a modern and classic style to accompany the simplicity of this vast landscape- specifically not taking away from the location itself. The couple’s attire was delicately chosen to complement the luxurious moped imported from Milano, Italy. A classic black and white color scheme accented the wedding “getaway car” while the flowers designed by Juniper Sage Floral Co accented the landscape itself.
Although minimal details were used for this elopement, the message for this shoot was to not have the materialistic aspects of a traditional wedding take away from the experience itself. We wanted to show couples that their wedding day can be customized to their unique wants and needs while keeping culture and authenticity at the forefront of their special day.
