We wanted our Belle Mer wedding day to reflect us as a couple. We both grew up in New England and love the ocean, so Newport was an ideal location for us. It truly was the best day, and we were so happy that our friends and family were able to join us in celebration.
We really wanted to let the venue speak for itself. Our ceremony was on the lawn, overlooking the harbor and Newport Bridge, so our only added decor was a decorated arch and aisle runners. The same was true for the reception – beyond the table centerpieces, we really didn’t need to do much decorating!
Florals were probably the most important part of our decor. Our venue, overlooking Newport Harbor, was so beautiful and did not need an abundance of decorations. We wanted to focus on simple, elegant flowers that kept with the feel of our venue, so we had lots of blues, whites and greenery.
We were so excited to be able to have our dog, Blue, be a part of our ceremony. He is a very important part of our family and we could not have imagined our wedding day without him there.
The best part of our wedding was being able to spend it with our friends and family. Only a few months after event-related covid19 restrictions were lifted, our wedding was one of the first times in over a year where all of our favorite people were in the same place.
As neither of us are especially performative people, we chose to read our vows privately, during our first look. It was so special to be able to share this moment just between the two of us.
Our advice in wedding planning is to not sweat the small things. Wedding planning can be incredibly stressful and take months, even years in these pandemic days, so it’s important not to lose sight of the bigger picture, which is that it is a day of celebration for you as a couple.
No one will remember what the table numbers look like, or that the ceremony started 5 minutes late, so just soak in the day, spend quality time with your new spouse and your friends and family, and have fun! And of course, having team of amazing vendors doesn’t hurt 🙂
