Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Wedding: “Eric and I met in passing at a bar trivia in 2015. Since I had two exes in the room and a guy I was dating at my end of the table, it was hard to approach Eric with more than a wave hello across the table. I moved away to Arizona soon after.
When I came back to San Antonio in 2017, I matched with Eric on Bumble a few months after arriving. On our 5th date, my car broke down on the interstate, and ultimately burst into flames before burning to the ground.
Eric and I had plenty of time to get away safely, but it was an intense moment that would either bond us or break us, and I’m glad we supported each other through it.
Our biggest challenge was when I was laid off from my job in July 2018 only a month after we moved in together for the first time and got a second dog (our first together).
It didn’t take long for us to realize that I was going to need to relocate if I wanted a job that would elevate my career.
I was in Austin by October 2018, and we dated long-distance until May 2021. We like to call it “short-distance” because it was easy to see each other regularly, but hard that we couldn’t support or enjoy being with each other day-to-day.
In the long run, I think it gave us a deeper appreciation and mutual respect for each other.”
