Samantha & Alee’s blue California wedding weekend was full of personal touches.
From the bride: My husband and I are Australians living in Seattle, with friends and family scattered across the globe. We thought it would be a wonderful idea to have a destination wedding weekend somewhere that was both beautiful and convenient for everyone to get to. After a lot of scouting we decided to host our weekend in the Santa Monica Mountains, with our Welcome Drinks and Wedding Day in Calabasas and our ‘No Grown-ups Allowed’ “Recovery” Party at the Malibu estate we rented for our accommodation. Our wedding day was unconventional to say the least. We decided that there was no way we were going to wake up on the best day of our lives apart, so we watched the sun come up together from our bedroom in the Malibu mountains, then spent the morning with our entire bridal party, all getting ready together.
The ceremony: My husband’s heritage is Lebanese and while I had always dreamt of walking down the aisle for my grand entrance, he had always imagined parading in surrounded by friends and family, drummers and dancing. So we decided to do both. Huddled with my beautiful bridesmaids, out of site in an upstairs room of King Gillette Ranch, first we heard and then we watched my now husband arrive into the ceremony on the shoulders of his father, with his mother and sister on either side, surrounded by a colourful array of their Arab kin and the amazing musicians that we had hired. It was such a surprise and delight for our guests who were waiting in the shade of the giant oak tree where we would soon say our vowels, wondering where on earth the Alee and his groomsmen could possibly be.
