Every bride wants to look like a princess on their big day, but almost as importantly, they want to look like a princess in their wedding photographs, which they can look back on fondly for years to come. There’s a bit of an art to looking picture perfect, and it can take a bit of practice. Here are a few top tips for ensuring you look as perfect in your pictures as you do in real life.
Practice some poses
Practicing your poses in the mirror before your big day can help you to feel far more confident. For people who aren’t used to be photographed, self-consciousness can come out, so knowing you’ve got some killer moves to pull out can banish those worries. Practice with a camera, not just a mirror, and you’ll be able to work out all of your most flattering angles as well. Many women like to practice their smile – photographs can take a while and the smile can end up looking a little forced, so practicing beforehand can help to strengthen the muscle, and ensure you’ve got the most flattering expression.
Don’t underestimate the power of hairspray
While you can touch up your makeup throughout the day, touching up hair can be a bit more tricky and time-consuming. If in doubt, add a little bit more hairspray – you want your ‘do to stay in place throughout the ceremony, dancing, and reception, so there’s never too much spray. A good quality hairspray will stop it from going crispy and sticky, and will just maintain a firm but natural hold throughout the day.
Speak to your photographer for advice
Your photographer has been to a fair few weddings, so they’re going to know a few tricks of the trade to get the bride looking her best on her big day. He may have some suggestions about makeup to use, locations for the photos, and even the time of day to get the best lighting, so make sure you use that resource. It’ll also enable you to express the things that you find important to get across in the wedding photos.
Be careful with your choice of makeup
Some makeup isn’t the best choice for weddings. You want to look fairly natural in your wedding photos, so foundation with an orange undertone probably isn’t the best choice as the flash can make it seem even more orange. Using a foundation with an SPF factor can reflect the light back at the camera, making your skin look shinier than it looks in real life, so it’s best to avoid that too. Soft, feminine, matte, and neutral shades usually photograph best.
Whiten your teeth
The photographer’s flash can make your teeth seem more stained than they do in real life, so as a precaution, using teeth whitening toothpaste or speaking to your hygienist could save you that embarrassment.
Have a trial run
Your hair and makeup will be the most crucial element of your photographs, so make sure you trial it all before the big day, and take photos with and without flash, in natural and unnatural light, just so that you can be sure you look perfect.
Most of all, enjoy it – a natural smile reaches the eyes, and you’ll be able to see it in the photographs, so be sure to have fun.
