I hate to say it, but don’t a lot of weddings just look really similar these days? Whenever people want to show me pictures of their wedding day, I kind of know what to expect. Sure, that won’t stop me looking at the photos. After all, who doesn’t want to see such memories of people on what may have been the happiest day of their lives? But the venues, the dress codes, the stories… they can all seem to blur into each other.
Of course, your wedding should be exactly what you want it to be. If you want the exact kind of weddings that you see in Hollywood movies, then you should go for it. Listening to the prescriptions of someone else may only negatively affect your day. But for those of you who want to add some kind of spice to your wedding, this article is for you. Here are some slightly offbeat suggestions.
Invite pets
I might as well start with this slightly more outlandish one. The fact is that people love photos of animals. Have you been on the Internet, recently? Cats and dogs seem to be pretty much everyone’s favorite things. So why not get your pets involved in the proceedings? Have your friends and family get suits for their dogs and cats and bring them along. It may seem a bit wild, but it’s not like others haven’t tried it and loved it before!
Get married outside
Why are so many people getting married in churches? Some will say it’s because marriage has religious origins, but this simply isn’t true. So why not expand your range when it comes to looking at venues? People have gone for some pretty wacky ones in the past. But you don’t need to go out to the desert or into outer space to find unique venues. Something as simple as expanding your range to outside wedding venues should do the trick.
Get musician friends to do the music
Getting a band for your wedding isn’t quite as popular as it used to be. And that’s a shame. Maybe people are still expecting Maroon 5 to gatecrash their day and perform for them. In any case, the decline is understandable. Hiring a band can often be expensive. They also tend to work with a limited repertoire of songs. But surely you know some people who can play instruments and sing? Why not get them to be the band? Even if they’re not very good. In fact, especially if they’re not very good.
Consider alternatives to wedding cakes
You can get opulent, luxurious versions of many types of dessert. Traditional cakes are usually seen as the easiest to modify for a wedding day. But there are loads of options you could consider that people have tried at weddings before. How about cheesecake? Fruit pies? Ooh, a big stack of pancakes. Cupcakes with a DIY frosting station. Or even a selection of all of the above? If I had to pick a favorite, I would probably have to go with “a selection of all of the above”. For obvious reasons.
In the end, you should do whatever you think will make you happy on your wedding day. If that means discarding all of the above advice, so be it. I hope your day is as amazing as can be!
