On your wedding day, you want to look and feel like your best self. Something you should try to avoid is looking like somebody else – which can often be easier said than done. Many brides think they need to go all out for their wedding day. They get long false nails when they usually have short nails. They have a dark tan. They dye their hair a new color. All of these things can leave you looking nice, but not quite like yourself. If you want to look back at pictures and recognize yourself in them, then it might be better to focus on looking like you, but better. This means enhancing what you already have and avoiding dramatic changes. To help you out, here are 12 ways you can look like ‘you but better’ for your wedding day.
1) Don’t Do Anything Dramatic In The Months Leading Up To It
Resist the temptation to do anything dramatic in the months leading up to your big day. For instance, don’t be tempted to dye your hair a dramatic new color or get a huge tattoo across your chest. You might end up really regretting choices like this on the day, and then there’s the possibility that something will go wrong and make your life harder.
2) Keep Your Makeup Natural But Enhancing
If you’re not comfortable with somebody else doing your makeup, doing it yourself is fine. Just practice exactly what you’re going to do beforehand to ensure it creates the sort of look you want. Bridal makeup is usually natural, but you can enhance your eyes or lips if you like. That being said, there are certain things that will work in wedding pictures and certain things that won’t. For instance, if you wear heavy eyeliner and lashes, your eyes will look much smaller in the wedding pictures. Watching a few tutorials beforehand should give you a good idea of what to do and what not to do. If somebody else is doing your makeup, make sure they have a bridal portfolio that you’re happy with.
3) Choose A Style That Really Suits You
You shouldn’t go for a style that’s brand new to you, either. Choose a style that suits you, whether you’re looking at buying your dress or picking your hairstyle. If you’re chic in everyday life, then going for a boho look may not be the best idea. Trying new styles can be fun in everyday life, but doing it on your wedding day is a risk. Try to go for something that you really love and know you’ll love looking back at, not something you think might look nice. You may end up looking back at your wedding pictures and wonder why you made that decision in the first place.
4) Use A Light Self Tanner or Body Oil
You don’t want to completely change your skin color for your big day, so use a light self tanner if you want a healthy glow, or just a body oil to enhance your skin and give you a natural color without changing the tone. Gradual tan can help you get to the perfect shade without overdoing it, or you can go to a trusted expert – although it may also be worth having one of these in advance to ensure you’re going to go a color you’re happy with, as different brands result in different shades.

5) Pick Suitable Eyewear
If you wear glasses every day, don’t switch to contacts for the big day. Instead, you can visit website and choose a pair that will suit you and look good with your wedding attire. This way, you still look like you but you get a nice new pair of formal glasses. If you sometimes wear contacts, then wearing contacts on your wedding day is fine – just don’t wear them if you’ve never worn them before. You may not like the pictures afterwards, and you might not like having to get them out!
6) Whiten Your Teeth
A bright, white smile looks great on everybody. If it has been a while since you’ve whitened your teeth, book with a professional so your smile looks great on your big day. If you can’t afford this, don’t go to somebody with a cheaper deal, or you could end up damaging your teeth. You can buy safe home kits and effective toothpaste if you need a more cost-effective solution.
7) Pick Your Beauty Treatments Carefully
Having beauty treatments before your big day can make you feel like royalty and the best version of yourself. However, it’s so important to emphasize that you don’t want any dramatic changes. Having your eyebrows tinted and shaped the day before can frame your face, but go too dark and you may end up regretting touching them at all. Having your lashes permed and tinted can be a great way to get naturally long eyelashes without extensions. Lash extensions could be better for you if you want something more dramatic, but make sure you’re going to be comfortable with them. Looking after them is very important, or you could end up damaging your own eyelashes.
8) Get Plenty of Sleep
There’s nothing quite as effective as a good night’s sleep to help you feel and look amazing! Try to focus on your sleep in the weeks leading up to the wedding, and especially the days before. You’ll look bright and fresh and feel great for the long day ahead.
9) Make Sure You’re Taking Care Of Your Body
Eating nutritious meals and exercising will ensure you are taking care of your body. Now, you’re not trying to change your body – having to have your outfit altered again could make your life far more difficult. Simply aiming to stay fit and healthy will make you feel good and give you plenty of stamina for the long day.

10) Drink Lots of Water
Don’t underestimate the power of staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water, at least 2 litres a day. Doing this early on in the day on your wedding and in between drinks will ensure you look great, avoid headaches, and stave off any hangovers. Getting used to it can be tough, and you’ll need to be prepared for the toilet breaks, so keep this in mind!
11) Get A Massage
A massage could help you to melt the stress of wedding planning away. Find somebody in the week leading up to your wedding and treat yourself to a full body massage. You could improve your posture, get rid of any niggles and knots, and you’ll feel even better on the day. You can use foam rollers and acupressure mats at home to try to stay on top of your knot-free muscles.
12) Take Your Skincare Seriously
A great makeup look requires a wonderful base. Take your skincare seriously and you’ll glow on the day. Make sure you keep up with a consistent day and night routine, wear your SPF, and double cleanse. Use products to suit your skin type, and give yourself plenty of time so you can adjust your routine if you need to. If you’ve got no idea how to start, then consider visiting a professional esthetician who can take a look at your skin and give you advice. You don’t need to spend a ton on products and have a 30 step routine; simple products can work just as well. You just need to find what works for you and be as consistent as possible.
