Bridal Blunders: What Couples Regret Most About Their Weddings

We know that planning a wedding isn’t easy, in fact, it’s probably one of the hardest events you will ever have to organize in your entire life. Not only are you dealing with an industry that’s become bigger than a seven-tiered wedding cake, has multiple options for just about everything whisper even the merest hint of the word ‘wedding’ and prices go through the roof. Still, you’re not in this alone, so it’s crucial that you and your groom work as a team, listen, communicate and be realistic about the budget because it’s the only way you’ll get through it all.

Not Hiring A Wedding Planner

There’s no getting around it is there? No matter how many willing helpers you have wedding planning will still drive you nutty at times. The problem is there are a million things to organize, book, and arrange and you’re racing against the clock. Most wedding websites offer free, printable wedding countdowns that start from around a year out and provide you with a handy-dandy checklist of everything you still need to do. While lots of brides-to-be enter into the spirit of things with huge smiles on their faces,  large binders full of amazing ideas and all the enthusiasm in the world, when you’re hand tying invitations at two am or trying to sort out wedding marquee hire you may start to think differently.

Booking A Bad Photographer

Wedding photographers need to be 100% professional as it’s one of the most common issues that brides complain about afterward. On the day itself the chances are you’ll be wrapped in a lovely cocoon of wedded bliss, so neither of you will notice half the details which mean those pictures become incredibly special once everything’s over. Even if you’ve got a very talented family friend or know an incredible student photographer we still recommend you hire someone official. Be aware of the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ so please don’t try to save money by booking someone cheaper. Professional photographers have training, are insured and have experience working with lots of different couples.

No Unplugged Ceremony

Funnily enough despite our obsession with social media, we hate having iPads, smartphones, and tablets waving around in the air at weddings. One of many brides pet peeves and real regrets was not having an unplugged ceremony i.e. banning people from taking photos, video or posting snaps and pictures to Instagram while the couple were busy saying their vows!

Forgetting About Plan B

The thing about outdoor weddings is that you’re placing a huge amount of faith in the weather which can then come back to haunt you. Some couples refuse even to discuss a plan B, i.e. where to hold the ceremony, or reception if it rains and heating hire when cold. Interestingly, this regret also goes the other way as some brides struggled because the weather was hot and they were wearing just too many layers! Think about where you live and what the weather’s normally like at that time of year then plan for the complete opposite. If you get lucky, then great but if it ends up tipping it down what then?
